Black Hills Works hosts rally to get individuals to vote

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) Every vote counts, and every voice deserves to be heard. That was the message from the A-team as they spoke at an event for those at Black Hills Works.

The A-team, or Advocacy team of the Black Hills held a rally to raise awareness of federal laws designed to help people of diverse abilities gain and maintain jobs. But according to members of the A-team, these “one size fit all” laws don’t work for everybody. Starting on June 1st, job placement modifications will go into effect — and they could be a detriment to some.

The satisfaction of having a job and being able to treat themselves means everything to those of diverse abilities.

Bret Whitmore says,’ This helps her life 100 percent. This is the fulfillment of her dreams. Because of her own earning she was able to take a trip to Disneyland a few years ago and that just means the world to her to be able to contribute like everyone else. That’s’ just a super super thing.’

The event also offered the opportunity for those who at Black Hills Works to register to vote and make sure their voice is heard and respected at all levels of government. Representatives from the Republican and Democrat parties were on hand to register new voters.
